If you like the US movies of the 70s, then you like Allen Garfield.

And you like Harvey Keitel.

And you like Tom Mankiewicz’s scripts.

And you like Peter Yates’ gritty direction.

It’s possible, but not inevitable, that you also like disco.  But, in spite of the fact that you may like all these things, you may yet not be aware of the existence of ‘Mother, Jugs, and Speed’.  This comedy-drama about a the c-r-a-z-y goings on at a competitive ambulance company, the sassy sensibilities of Raquel Welch’s receptionist, the unhinged passions of Larry Hagman (and yep, you read that right), and the witticisms of Bill Cosby is truly one of the seminal ambulance company competition comedy-dramas.  It’s available to Watch Instantly on Netflix.  And the reason this post is short is that I am watching it right now.  It’s astonishing.  By which I mean you won’t believe what you’re seeing.  Or that it ever got made in the first place.

Hey folks – Jett Loe here barging in on Gareth’s Post.  While looking for links of Raquel Welch – I came across the below – now I have no idea how good ‘Mother, Jugs, and Speed’ is – I’m going to watch it tonight based on Dr. Higgin’s recommendation – but I will say that the video below is incredible:

  • My parents actually took me to see this in the theater, which in retrospect I can't believe (I was very very young).

Of course, I loved the ambulance.
