Personally, guys, this episode is one of my all time favorites! i LOVED every minute of this thrill seeking, high octane adventure that was full of laughs a minute and romance on the high seas! Honestly tho, everything was so dead on! i felt that Jett hit the nail on the head about Speed Racer, AND made me feel completely justified in liking it when others didn’t – HA!. (I couldn’t explain WHY it worked for me, but after hearing the ‘Ghost Car’ theory, it made sense.) I have never seen the Matrix annnnd i, too, feel that Lucas (and others) have made everything too…shiny, clean and perfect. So five stars for this epic endeavor that both tugs on the heart and inspires a whole generation! ;)

    God bless ya Kiley! :)

Jett and Gareth, I have to say, TFT is growing on me. With production more regular, I look forward to the new show as a part of my week.

Interestingly enough, Kiley’s comments to you all are pretty much the same as what I was going to submit for a review quote for SITC (though perhaps a bit facetiously).

It seemed as though you guys may have drifted off into taglines for the film toward the end. I think we can’t overlook: “On every street in every city, there’s a nobody who dreams of being catty.”

Cheers Matt, will really try to make TFT a weekly occurrence! :)

    “There can be only one”

What are you saying Jett, do we all have to compete for “the prize” of being THE film talk listener? Should I go sharpen my claymore?

Really enjoyed Speed Racer, it had its flaws but was ultimately original and entertaining. The Ghost car thing really didn’t confuse me, was surprised so many people thought so. However, I was wondering wheter it was visible to the other spectators, as a projected best time thing in the video game sense, or just in the mind of Speed.

Got extra points in my opinion for using “Free Bird”.

Well, we all know there really is only one listener ‘Tom’, if that is your real name – so you have as good a chance as anybody of winning the ‘prize’, (aka – a signed, coffee splattered photographic print taken by yours truly).

    Ahhh, the immortal MacLeod, ftw…:D

Gareth and I know there’s only one of ya!

Morning boys… it’s me, the listener here. Enjoyed the show, glad there was some friction of options. Recommend you check out Mark Kermode’s podcast review of Speed Racer (BBC5Live a week or two ago) … he used the words “like putting your head in a candy floss maker” which seem apposite…

sp: options (above) should read opinions

  • 11 jettloe // May 26, 2008 at 4:17 pm

I like ‘Friction of Options’…think I saw them when they opened for the White Stripes back in 2004.

Only half way through this week’s episode – so you’ve just got your cup of coffee and ready to talk about the film (I think). It’s beginning to sound like an episode of LTA! (That’s a good thing.)

One correction – the Apple Store in Belfast’s shiny new Victoria Square retail cathedral isn’t open yet. It’s currently recruiting wizard staff and should open it’s glass doors in September.

  • 13 jettloe // May 26, 2008 at 5:39 pm

Yeah – with LTA on semi-hiatus, (without the Wayne it’s not worth the pain), TFT is offering a similar release valve for me!

As I mentioned to Jett on the twitter (http://twitter.com/hiddenloop/statuses/822844644) – I have to back him up on this one, when you buy into it, it draws you in and was indeed a fun thrilled fueled ride of adrenaline.

I may be biased as a fan of the original Matrix and in general all things sci-fi -ish.

I’d like to know what TheFilmTalk made of Cloverfield ? – http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1060277/ released earlier this year. Again, another one I totally got drawn into in, and throughly enjoyed.

And yes, i’m still a fan of the lost (all these years later) – why, Jeth Roe my ‘torrenting friend’ is getting the latest finale down right now…

  • 15 jettloe // May 31, 2008 at 1:38 am

Ahh Cloverfield…didn’t see it. I know that Jeff Love had a look so will see what his opinion his.

Just read that Speed Racer really flopped.

Makes me sad, the film deserved better.

  • 17 jettloe // Jun 2, 2008 at 10:09 pm

They should cut it by 15 min – release as a special edition! :)

[...] As you know Dear Listener I am a huge fan of Speed Racer – I actually think it’s kinda great, (which lead to quite a disagreement between Professor Doctor Gareth Higgins and I in this ep of ‘TFT’). [...]
